424 Vol.1 is a compilation of selected cassette based recording experiments taken over 2020-21.

Since my 2019 single 'What To Expect', i've loved recording my ambient stuff with my Portastudio 424, and really like how it imparts a more organic sort of character to the sounds and arrangements. Given the obvious lofi and raw quality, but also the lack of tempo locked and grid based chop n change of DAW setups (which i also love), that lends itself to a more free-flowing, looser expression in these pieces.
I hop between tape and digi a bit, so hopefully more 424 volumes to come :)

This is the first Balconys release in nearly 3 years (since 2020's debut album 'Invers'), with more material on hold / on the way.

Now (Only):
A 'must hit record' scenario with one of my pedals being more or less broken on infinite reverb mode, (a beautiful malfunction), with some layers added accordingly.

People Like Nice Neat Lines:
I surprised myself while playing back these sounds at the wrong speed, completely bewildered when or how i made what i was hearing initially, and they had to stay at that speed.

In Conversation (Abstract Field):
The nature / birds chatting backdrop were recorded in Wye River, and really matched the peacefulness of the other elements in setting a similar tone to the sleepiness and tranquility of Wye.

Glimpse (Slow Rvs):
Title says it all. Glimpse was first released on dot.music's Casera Three series release, and this is actually the original length version, recorded to cassette and back at half speed and reversed.

Felt these lil stories help define the tracks and their creation..
